Questions

Short answers, before you call

What people ask first. Rules differ by state and by job, so these are starting points, not advice about yours.

Which side do you represent?

Contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and owners. We never take both sides of one job, and we check for a conflict before we read your paper.

Can you help if I have no written contract?

Yes. A handshake job still has a start date, invoices, messages and a last day of work. Those set the deadlines and show what was agreed.

How fast do I need to call?

As soon as payment stops or a notice arrives. Notice and lien windows are often measured in weeks, and some start on your first day on the job.

Do you handle defect claims?

Only when a defect claim grows out of a contract or payment dispute we are already handling. For a defect case on its own, we refer you to a lawyer who focuses on them.

Which states do you work in?

Texas and Oklahoma. For work elsewhere we tell you early and, where we can, point you to a lawyer there.

Who speaks Spanish?

Cirilo Balderas and the front office. This site is in both languages, and we can write letters and explain documents in Spanish. A contract stays in the language it was signed in unless you ask us to translate it.

What does it cost?

Contract reviews are quoted as a flat fee once we see the document. Disputes are billed hourly or on a fee we agree in writing before work starts. We give you the range for each step before you approve it.

Will you sue my customer?

Only if you want that and the numbers make sense. Most of the work is notices, demand letters and negotiation, and we say plainly when a claim costs more than it can return.

Not sure it fits? Ask.

Send two lines about the job. If we are not the right firm, we say so and, where we can, point you to one.

Please don't send confidential details through the form.
